1  Introduction

Again Welcome to the class.

There are many things to learn from this class. You will need to decide how much time you will devote to your effort to find a job before graduation.

The goal: To find a job before graduation or soon after graduation.

To succeed acheiving this goal here are some things to do during your time in this class.

  1. Begin your job search: Begin your job search now so you know what the job requirements are for the jobs you are interested in applying to and the type of data that is common to the job. Collect some example job description that are good examples of the jobs your are interested in.

  2. Make a list of common skill requirements: Make a list of the skills required from the job descriptions you have collected.

  3. Develop your professional network: Make connections in LinkedIn to everyone in the class and to the instructor. Start to think about who will be important members of your professional network.

  4. Resume development: Begin to work on your resume. Include the following sections: (1) jobjective (job objective) (2) education (3) coursework not class titles (4) projects (5) work experience (describe you past work as it relates to your current jobjective) (6) volunteer work (7) hobbies. Your resume will be a living document that will evolve during your career. Start to work on it now and have the intention of working on often. Do not leave your resume unattended for more than a year.

  5. Class project: Your class project should be completed with the goal of it being an example of your work that can be shared with a potential employer.

  6. Nice Notebook with code and explanation: A written report. The written report should summarize the question investigated, the data used and it’s source, code, clearly presented results, and understandable statements of the findings of the research project.
