Week 9:

  • Homework 3 is due Monday February 26.
  • Midterm 2 will be returned on Monday.

Week 8:

  • Homework 3 should be completed by Monday February 19, we will go over this homework for the Midterm.
  • Midterm 2 is on Wednesday February 21.
  • The Second Computer Exam is now available, see Handouts.
  • The last two homework assignments are available, see Homework.

Week 7:

  • Homework 3 is available.
  • This week we will cover Continuous Random Variables, The Central Limit Theorem, and we will begin Statistical Inference.
  • The Engineering Students should read Ch.5 as preparation for taking Stochastic Processes.

Week 6:

  • The homework from Ch3 will be due 2/12.
  • Here is a link the FREE NCSS Probability Calculator.  This calculator give probabilities for many of the standard probability models.
  • Probabilities can also be calculated in R.  Some of the functions are rbinom( ), etc..
  • Another good place online to calculate probabilities is SticiGui.  See Tool&Demos > Probability Calculator.
  • One more place for probabilities is VassarStats. See Distributions.

Week 5:

  • Midterm 1/31.
  • The due date of the second homework assignment will be postponed until we finish Chapter 3.
  • Next week we will be using a program called R to plot randomly selected values of different types of random variables.  Binomial, Poison, Normal, Exponential, etc..  To get started you can download the program from the R website and you can print out a manual here.

Week 4:

  • Quiz Wednesday 1/24.
  • Homework2 is now available.
  • ComputerExam1 is now available, see Handouts.
  • First Midterm 1/31.

Week 3:

  • Homework #1 is due next Monday.
  • The first quiz will be given next Wednesday.
  • The date of the first Midterm will be given next week.

Week 2:

  • Homework #1 is available.
  • Three handouts related to random number generation should be printer out for Wednesday's class.

Week 1:

  • For this week you should buy you book, choose a computer language to use, and make sure you have access to the complier for the language.

Week 0:

  • I have decided on the book for the course, it is Probability and Statistics for Engineers, by Scheaffer and McClave.  I chose this book because I think it has very good examples and problems, also because it discusses the use of simulation.
